The player

Xie Jing, born in Jiangsu in 1989 and raised in the game in Shanghai, is the 2013 national individual champion. Named a grandmaster in 2008, he had earlier won the national under-16 title and Asian team golds.

He was the 'closing disciple' of the great Hu Ronghua, who brought him to Shanghai as a child prodigy - and he starred for the Shanghai team. The game here shows the controlled, positional style of a player schooled by the master himself.

Xie Jing - Xie Kui, 2007

2007 Yitai Cup National Individual Championship · 2007 · Xie Kui (red) vs Xie Jing (black)

Xie Jing, the Jiangsu grandmaster who would go on to win the national title, takes Black at the individual championship in a battle of the two Xies. A controlled, positional win.

A cannon takes the first soldier on move fourteen, the heaviest exchanges come in the thirties, and Xie Jing keeps the sounder structure into a favourable ending. No fireworks - just accurate, patient accumulation until the position falls.
