郑惟桐 (Zheng Weitong) was born in Chengdu in 1994, learned the game beside the Funan river and turned professional at fourteen. A twelfth place at the 2009 national championship made him a master. He won the national individual championship in 2014 and 2015, received the grandmaster title with the first of those wins, and from 2015 stood second in the national ratings. He entered Tsinghua University in 2020, and in 2023 he won the men's individual gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games, the Chinese delegation's two-hundredth gold of those Games.
