刘殿中 (Liu Dianzhong), a grandmaster from Hebei, was one of the province's leading players and coaches over a long career. He coached 胡明 (Hu Ming), the first woman to hold the world, Asian and national titles.

Liu Dianzhong, the long-serving Hebei grandmaster and a well-known coach, has Red against Hu Ronghua. He was better known for the champions he trained than for titles of his own, and this game shows that he could beat the best himself.
The game stays closed until a chariot trade on move thirteen. Then it opens with five captures in ten plies, and the second pair of chariots comes off as well. Liu keeps both cannons and squeezes out the win in an ending that looks level. It is a win of patient technique, with nothing flashy about it.
