The player
Jiang Chuan, born in Yongjia, Zhejiang in 1984, is the 2010 national individual champion and the 2011 world champion, crowned in Jakarta. Named a grandmaster in 2010, he played for the Beijing team.
He is one of the great blindfold players in the game’s history: in 2017 he set a Guinness World Record with a blindfold simultaneous of one player against twenty-six boards over more than sixteen hours, having already broken Liu Dahua’s long-standing mark in 2011. Over the board his style was one of concrete, calculating attack.
The games here show that calculating clarity against the strongest opposition of the 2000s.
Jiang Chuan - Lü Qin, 2007
2007 Qidouxing Cup National League · 2007 · Jiang Chuan (red) vs Lü Qin (black)
Jiang Chuan - multiple national champion and a record-setting blindfold player - takes red against Lü Qin in the league, a Central Cannon handled with his trademark clarity.
A chariot trade on move seventeen opens the game and the exchanges run through the thirties; the material stays level almost to the end, and Jiang wins it on the finer placement of his pieces. A clean, modern positional win over one of the all-time greats.

Jiang Chuan - Yu Youhua, 2005
2005 Qixin Golf Cup National League · 2005 · Yu Youhua (red) vs Jiang Chuan (black)
Jiang Chuan takes Black against Yu Youhua in a short, sharp league game - two attacking players, and the shorter route to the point goes to Jiang.
A horse-for-horse trade on move twenty-four is the first capture, and the decisive stretch comes just before it, five captures in ten moves in the twenties. Jiang keeps the healthier force and converts inside sixty-four plies. Efficient and exact.
